Should we use a C1D2 non-incendive (NI) unit or a C1D2 Z-Purge Enclosure?
With a nonincendive unit you rely on the manufacturer that the unit was properly assembled and trust it will continue to work correctly. Using a purged unit you have the confidence of knowing that it was assembled correctly and is working properly because the EPSK or GPSK switches provide continuous and verifiable monitoring that the unit was built properly and is operating correctly. Adding horns or light alarms provides unattended alerts if needed.
Alarms sense the loss of safe pressure and alert the operator or proper personnel that there is a problem. This can provide additional peace of mind knowing that if there is a breach, it will be addressed immediately.
The Z purge reduces the area classification within the purged enclosure from Class I, Div 2 / Zone 2 to non-classified where general purpose equipment can be fitted within the enclosure. This let’s you maintain component standards across your entire facility.
With a nonincendive unit there is the limitation that all replacement parts must have standalone C1D2 certifications.
